Sam Thompson has been working in the field of Planning and Landscape Architecture for more than 30 years and has lodged more than 500 successful planning applications in Central Victoria. In the last 10 years he has focused on the area of planning for bushfire.

The new Bushfire Management Overlay replaced the WMO in November 2011. Sam has done the CFA WMO Course and BMO training, and has completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Bushfire and Climate at Melbourne University. He is well versed with the BMO and can efficiently prepare a Bushfire Management Statement.

Sam is an accredited as a Level 3 Practitioner in Victoria with the Fire Protection Association. Sam has prepared risk assessments and Bushfire Management Statements for more than 1000 properties including large and small scale subdivisions, schools, caravan parks, hotels, solar farms, animal boarding facilities and the State Library of Victoria's document storage facility. He has also assessed many properties lost to bushfire and analysed how and why they burned and what measures can be taken in the rebuild to reduce the chances of burning in the future.

Sam integrates site planning skills and land management knowledge with the Bushfire Assessment to reduce risk while considering other assets and constraints within the site. He can also assess native vegetation that may need to be removed, modified or managed.
